Sports-dramas are a whole new genre which Bollywood is experimenting with, every now and then. It the 21st century, it started with Aamir Khan‘s Lagaan: Once Upon a Time In India in the year 2001. The industry has grown with commercial hits like Dangal, Chak De! India and few critically acclaimed films like Saala Khadoos and Soorma. Today, we see the release of the much awaited Farhan Akhtar starrer sports drama Toofaan, which is out now on Amazon Prime.

The hindi-language sports drama is very close to Farhan’s heart portrays him playing the character of a national level boxer. Akhtar has undergone an extensive training for the role.

“I hated drills. ?? To wake up at 5am and think about that monster of a drill session waiting for me was, at times, good enough reason to make some random excuse and just stay in bed..!! ”

Akhtar also wrote a special message for his trainer, former world kickboxing champion Drew Neal. “But @drewnealpt got me to respect the discipline and with time I realised how much it helped in evolving my overall skills as a boxer”, said the actor.

Actress Mrunal Thakur and Paresh Rawal are seen in supportive roles. Coming from the makers of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, the film had also created a buzz in the market with it’s teaser launch in March 2021. Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, it has also been released in English alongside it’s hindi version.
